Art Party Recap

The Art Party was great. Alex did really well and he even sold some pieces! It was really nice to have our friends and family show up to support him. Both of our parents came, Megan & Justin, Sean and Alex's sister and fiance. Megan & Justin hung out the whole time and the four of us had fun griping about random things. Our next move is to create an online shop for Alex's art. I'm looking forward to his next show.

Alex's Art: Sleestak Lightning Co.

I feel like the world's biggest cheerleader when it comes to Alex and I totally don't care. I love Alex's artwork and anything I can do to help him in promoting himself and his art, I'm all for it. I mean, why wouldn't I? Especially since I work with social media for a living. This online stuff is foreign to Alex, so I feel as though it's my job to make up for it.
Alex has an art show tomorrow night and that's what really lit a fire for me. I knew he needed an online presence and that we needed to create some social media buzz for the event. This isn't Alex's first art show, by any means, but it is his first art show since we've been together. With that being said, it should come as no surprise that I've created a website for his artwork. He came up with a catchy name for his brand too! He's named it Sleestak Lightning Co. - if you're a Clutch fan, you know what he's talking about.

So, if you're interested, please check out his website. We're in the process of creating a shop too. But in the meantime, if you don't want to wait to buy one of his pieces online (and you live in central Florida) be sure to stop by Fresco's Underground tomorrow night (Saturday, July 23) - in Lakeland, FL. The Music Show & Art Party starts at 8:30pm. We'd love to see you there! I'll be the one with the pom poms standing next to the tall, skinny guy with tattoos. ;)

Dear Olive, Happy Birthday!

My sweet bunny, you are around two years old today. This is only a guesstimate, because you were around 11 months old when I adopted you on June 22, 2015. I know this isn't a proper birthday, but it is your first birthday with me. I know you can't read these words, let alone understand English, but just know that I love you and I will always take care of you. All of the kisses on the head that I give you, the night time cuddling, the squishy hugs you get while I'm lying on the floor with you and all of the never-ending head rubs means that you are mine - and I am yours.

Happy first birthday (with me). I love you, little girl.

Olive's Getting A Rabbitat

A few days ago Alex & I decided that it was time to get Olive a new rabbitat. The cage I initially bought for her, which was over a year ago, has reached it's maximum potential. It's not that there's anything wrong with it; I just feel as though it's too small. Olive hasn't grown by any means - I think she might have gained a half a pound - but I know that a 28 inch long cage isn't really cutting it because recently she has spent most of her time outside of her cage, lying on the floor next to our bed.

So we ordered her a puppy playpen that we're going to turn into a 24 inch wide by 78-inch long rectangular cage. Which means A LOT more room for that little bun. I'm getting pretty excited too. I've decided I'm going to keep the base of her current cage so it placed inside one end of her new cage. It will hold her litter box and there is enough room for her food to go in there as well. Besides, I think if she lost her perch & hidey hutch she would be pretty bummed. I think I'll also be placing her "sublimation chamber" at the other end of the new cage. It's essentially a mesh pop-up laundry basket with sheets stuffed inside it. She loves digging in there and it's funny to see her wear herself out afterward.

As for now, we're trying to decide what to place on top of the new cage, because it is only 24 inches high and her furry little butt can jump higher than that. I was going to get a 30-inch high playpen, but then it wouldn't be able to fit under the desk we have and we wanted the desk to act as a partial cover in the middle of the cage. However, it will leave the two ends exposed. Perhaps pieces of wood or fabric? I mean I could risk it and leave it exposed, but Olive is a major klutz. She's fallen off the bed, off her hidey hutch - while she was sleeping - and managed to get trapped in between her cage and the wall. There's no way I trust her. Haha.

I will most likely take photos of her new rabbitat once the pen arrives.

If you have any suggestions as to what to place on top of the two exposed ends, please leave a comment below!

Seven Ten

Yesterday was so much fun, even if it started out with a lot of less sleep than we had hoped for. Thanks to a certain pup waking us up at 4am to her barking like a maniac. Alex had already greeted me with roses Saturday night, so yesterday started off with him making us breakfast. Then we exchanged gifts. He gave me a book that I had been wanting for awhile and I gave him some comic book coasters and box that I made for him. Then we went on a mini road trip and drove to Hyde Park. We stopped at Oxford Exchange for some much a needed much needed caramel lattee for me and a caramel cold brew for him.

Alex had planned to take us to a pub we went to when we first started dating, but we decided British food wasn't really what we wanted. So we headed to downtown St. Pete to check out the Museum of Fine Arts, since neither of us had ever been before. Afterwards we stopped in one of the jewelry stores downtown and he got me the most beautiful amethyst necklace. We were going to have dinner at one of the restaurants in St. Pete, but since we weren't all that hungry we decided to drive back home for sushi at the restaurant where we had our first date.

I'm so lucky that I get to call Alex mine. I can't wait until he is my husband... only 208 more days to go!

Seven Ten: The Evolution of Sparks

Relationships evolve. Some evolve in negative ways while others grow stronger, deeper. Each one starts with a spark and that spark can do one of two things: evolve or burn out. When a spark evolves it has the ability to transform into an ever present and consistent flame. Sparks are fun, don't get me wrong, but flames are even better. Flames connotate something deeper, and deeper relationships are a lot more magical than sparks. And yes, I still feel sparks when I look at Alex, but these sparks make up a flame. A flame that I know will always be there, illuminating the darkest parts of my soul.

My (Crazy) Little Family

Not too long ago Alex & I attempted to take a family photo. You know - me, Alex and Olive - and honestly it was slightly frustrating because Olive WOULD NOT SIT STILL. I mean what was I really expecting? When that girl isn't lounging, she's a hyper little thing.

I remember feeling so defeated with the way the photos turned out - I couldn't find a good one out of the bunch. But last night I opened up the photos and fell in love with them. Yes, they aren't perfect - I mean Olive is flying out of my arms in one of them, but I can't get enough of the photos now. They show how our crazy little family truly is: flying bun and all!

I'll cherish these photos for years to come.

Slightly Stunned

Some days I still look at him and can't believe that we are together. I'll hear his voice and I become slightly stunned, still in awe. It's weird how during all those years in between I didn't know what I was missing. I wouldn't know until our eyes met for the second time.

and now...
Now I can't picture my life without him. I can't even begin to imagine what this world would be like without him holding my hand, or kissing me on the forehead. He has managed to pull forth a myriad of emotions that I never allowed myself to experience before. He makes me weak - yet at the same time, strong.
